Straumann is a Swiss dental implant brand used worldwide and supported by many long-term clinical studies. Below are the main features of the system and what patients should understand before treatment.
Features
- Materials: implants are made of commercially pure titanium or Roxolid, a titanium–zirconium alloy. According to the manufacturer, Roxolid is stronger than pure titanium, allowing narrower implants where bone is thin.
- Surfaces: SLA and SLActive surfaces are designed to support osseointegration. The manufacturer reports faster early healing with SLActive; actual healing time is decided by the dentist based on bone condition.
- Product range: various lengths, diameters and designs, including short and narrow implants for limited bone.
What determines implant longevity?
Long-term studies report high survival rates, but no implant system can guarantee lifelong use. Longevity depends on correct diagnosis and planning with CT imaging, surgical technique and infection control, restoration design and bite, oral hygiene, regular check-ups, smoking and general health such as diabetes. The implant brand is only one part of the treatment plan.
